Military forces from Britain, Russia, USA, NATO, Pakistan have either been defeated by Afghani forces or have retreated without victory. When will USA wake up to the fact that Afghanistan will NEVER be overrun by invading militias or armies? Bagram Air Base is Trump's pipe dream!

So, I had a Pakistani colleague, about 10 years ago. A great guy; I wonder where he is now. He told me about the "tribal area" in Pakistan, along the Afghan border. How the people living there, Pashtuns, allies of the Taliban, represent a huge problem for Pakistan. They wouldn't obey Pakistani Feds, and when pressed, they tend to resist using terrorist means. I guess that's the "Durand Line", right?

But it seems strange to hear about Pakistan "overthrowing the Taliban and indefinitely occupying Afghanistan" (albeit hypothetically), when they, Pakistan, can't even deal with a small, narrow strip of land under a Taliban-like rule inside their own country. Or have the things changed dramatically in the last 10 years?
