A US backed Nigerian intervention in Mali is a remote possibility even a pipe dream. The Nigerian military has its hands full fighting a crippling, multi-front insurgency, terrorism, banditry and kidnapping. There are active internal security operations in 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states. It can hardly spare the manpower for a brigade march-past never mind an intervention in a country more than 300,000 sq km larger than Nigeria itself. It won’t happen.
