I am of a very strong view that anything AUS military does is purely akin to "fetch! ---> good dog" by its US master. It's the tax in blood for "protection" ANUS paid in Korea, Vietnam, somewhat in Iraq and now is paying in Ukronazistan. Little known fact: they had second biggest mil presence in Vietnam, proportionally the dead bodies count too. Even barking at China and "free navigating" the world at China's shorelines is not its free will. The only free will they have is "when" (within the given time frame), "how much" (within a prescribed bracket) and "where" (within a pre-selected region).

Unlike NZ, this commonwealth has never had independent policy making or military ever..

The British, then the Americans, are able to scare the Australians into doing anything they want. They followed the British into almost all their imperial wars and post-WW 2 into all American wars. I believe they are subconsciously afraid that others would do what they did, invade the continent, and therefore are willing to do anything to have a big brother to protect them, As delusional as it might seem I think that is what drives them to be subservient to the US and the UK in almost all matters of foreign policy. During the Crimean War they actually feared that the Russian fleet might sail into Sydney harbour. Australians are easily frightened and as a result they are willing to participate in the death and destruction across the world in the service of the American empire. Still "colonials" after all these years.
