Maintaining silence in response to this proposal like it has for over two weeks already if Semafor’s report is accurate would enable the US to keep its regional military-strategic options open.
Project 2025 is no blueprint for Trump 2.0. It was a plan made up by C-PAC which Trump has heavily denounced on his campaign. The left tried tirelessly to link it to Trump during the presidential campaign and it never stuck. There are some nutty items in that which Trump would never put into action. Remember Trump was a democrat for many years before he became a republican. While he courted and counted on the conservative wing of the party to get elected he isn’t as far right as they are and if he was he wouldn’t be sitting where he is right now. Andrew you’re better than that.
I know that, but referencing Project 2025 and popular perceptions about it, especially among a heavily Democrat-influenced foreign leader, isn't equivalent to lending credence to those claims.
If you reread what I wrote, I specifically wrote "More speculatively" to inform readers that what follows is literally just speculation, but it's relevant in terms of trying to understand HSM's perceptions for explaining his duplicitous offer.
That said, this article compellingly argues that part of Project 2025 at the very least influenced some of the Pentagon's policies as proven by parts of an alleged document supposedly being copied almost word-for-word:
Some figures associated with Project 2025 have also landed positions in the Trump Administration, which doesn't mean that Trump lied when he denied knowledge of their report and disavowed it, but just that this is how things nonetheless still turned out.
Anyhow, I didn't like your swipe about how "you're better than that". I don't know what your intent was and it's difficult to discern tone entirely from text alone, but it came off as condescending and hope that you don't talk to me like that again please.
I didn't have to take the time out of my busy day addressing your comment so you should appreciate the attention that I'm paying to it in clarifying what I wrote, why, and its relevance to my analysis on this subject.
Andrew, it wasn’t condescending. I read much of the content you put out on Substack and you’ve nailed the Ukraine/Russia war plus all the players involved in it. You’re right that text never comes off as it’s meant. What I meant was a more playful comment. You may have written in the past about the project and yes Trump has people in his administration who are involved with it but he isn’t going to allow them to take over his agenda. The media and left went nuts here when project 2025 was released. It’s like a 2,000 page document with some crazy shit in it that had he come out in support of would’ve most likely cost him the election. Please accept my apology as I’d not wish to offend you. I appreciate the slap to the face. I’ll not make that mistake again.
It's okay, James, no worries at all! I get attacked almost daily nowadays on social media, and it's practically always from people that are or present themselves as being "on the same side", so I'm a bit sensitive these days. I appreciate you clarifying, it's perfectly fine though, no "slap in the face" intended whatsoever!
Andrew, I respect what you do as a journalist who investigates and gives it to us without bias which is very hard to find anymore. Plus, you shouldn’t give two F’s what anyone says especially a nobody like me or someone else who makes dumb comments. You have the body of work that to me makes you an expert on the Ukraine war. Nobody that I’ve seen has been as spot on as you. I realize Substack is sorta social media but the bullshit from others is exactly why I quit social media over a decade ago. I know you need it for your career but don’t sweat it which I realize is much easier to say than do your work is good and anyone who says other wise can take your place and do it themselves. Keep plowing ahead. I for one am on your side.
Yet another test case for the USA to show to the world whether it is a good old empire unchanged and unrepented, or whether it truly respects other countries and other people. Human civilization only improves at snail speed while slipping down the slope to the abyss is always lightning fast.
