Pressuring Ukraine into hard concessions may be distasteful to some, but power politics isn't about sentiment; it's about securing long-term national interests. A controlled end to the conflict that satisfies core Russian security demands prevents the U.S. from being dragged into another costly, open-ended war and reorients its focus toward the real strategic competitor: China.

Stabilizing Europe through balance, not idealism, is the pragmatic path forward.

The United States is indifferent to most of these, as long as Americans aren't coming back in body bags in significant numbers, and others don't require peace in Ukraine.
