Germany is overreaching itself. Presently this base has something like 500 soldiers and is not expected to be operational for something like 5 years. Bundeswehr in its current state is a joke.

It doesn't look as though the Russians might be concerned about the German presence in the Baltics. Of much greater importance for them are NATO plans for Poland and Rumania which will very likely feature in future US-Russia talks.

Secondly Poland may have ambitions to influence the Baltics but so far it could not even manage to resolve various Polish minority language issues in Lithuania.

Poland would not be able to defend the Baltic states if they were attacked by Russia, which in any case is unlikely.

The Baltic states are russophobic psycho ward. Why would anyone bother with them. Their only reason to exist is to make everyone frighten of Russia and the way they treat the Russian minority is detestable.

Exactly. It's pathetic how Germany and the rest of Europe are frighten themselves with Russian "agression" on one side and American "betrayal"on the other.

Germany's military base in Lithuania presents a mitigating opportunity for Puitin. if German troops initiate hostilities with either Russia or Belarus they will be immediately targeted and eliminated as a warning to Germany without the need to impact sovereign German territory. Sure, the consequences could trigger NATO's article 5 however it might serve as a dire warning to NATO that the "red line" exists.

Germany atm doesn't know how to respond to reciprocal tariffs anyway. The whole thing is very in flow. If Germany felt militarily really threatened, they would include AFD in government.

There is no doubt that Lithuania was chosen by Germany for their first post-WWII military adventure very carefully. Is it possible that the Germans picked Lithuania to promote/help the Baltic States the possibility of closing Russia’s exit toward the Baltic Sea? In this case Germany knows that their small army, together with the Lithuanian army can be checkmated very fast by the Russians. Besides the German military, what countries would be willing to jump into this conflict immediately? The Baltic States, Poland and maybe Finland. If this is the German Game than they are simply placing their 5,000 men there to act as a tripwire to start a larger conflict against Russia. Another possibility is that they are keeping an eye on Kaliningrad although there is a relative small number of ethnic German present there, less than 1%. Still, the fact is that Kaliningrad is an ancient Germanic territory going back to the 13th century. The whole German act looks like an opening for a well thought out chess game.

Corrective statement:

Actually Germany is planning to deploy 4,800 soldiers supported with 200 civilians and 2,000 military vehicles by 2027. At this time (04/04/2025):

‘Approximately 700 German military personnel are already serving in Lithuania. Other NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization Allies are participating in turns: At present, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Luxembourg are providing military personnel to the eFPenhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup/MN Battlegroup in Lithuania.’

There are many details at the Bundeswher website that explain the gradual buildup of NATO forces in the Baltic States. It seems we are dealing with a long-term commitment here to secure the area from Russian occupation. Since the changes implemented by Trump 2.0 the situation has fundamentally changed. Realistically, the best security for the Baltic States would be to be satisfied with the leftover NATO guarantees and give up hostile activities against their Russian minorities. Lithuania should also consider stopping the blockade of the Kaliningrad corridor and allow Russian traffic to go through there again.

Putin in this chess game plays against a bunch of other players on the opposite side who argue over every damn move on the board and can't make a right decision.

Germany and Denmark are in furtive talks for a neo-Bundeswehr counter to American dominance in Europe which has hitherto manifested through the instrument of NATO. The new arrangement envisaged by ambitious German establishment seeks to effectively oust the USA from the European continent and replace American dominance with German one, under the pretext of scuttling NATO overdependence on the Pentagon. Germany is rearming itself and slowly but steadily entrenching itself militarily across Europe and various pretexts are being innovated for evading the watchful eyes of the Pentagon which had hitherto been the watchdog for ensuring perpetual compliance with post WW2 disarmament obligations by Germany. German incumbent leadership hopes to supplant existing American influence across Europe with Germanic hegemony so as to be able exclusively to milk Europe's resources as it were, as Hitler had outlined as being crucial to sustenance of Germany's status as a techno-industrial powerhouse. This is akin to the fashion in which Germanic OstroGoths and Visigoths, and Scandinavian Varangians had wrested political sway over entire Europe after fanning out from Germany, Austria and Scandinavia by exploiting the vacuum left by Hunnic and Bulgar invasions. This is at least how German leadership intends to sell its expansionist plan to an impressionable German public, banking on latent chauvinist tendencies. Zionist corporations intend to piggy back ride this wave through ownership stakes in German MIC.

Germany is marketing its pax Germania to neo-imperialist idiots in the Baltics, by making them feel as if they have a stake in German hegemony by assuring them that they are racially as much Germanic as Danes and Swedes and therefore entitled to share booty amassed from Europe by Germany. But the medieval history of Gothic conquest and annexation of the Baltics belies such vain hopes.

Russia can consider exchanging its ethnic Germanic population for Russian minorties residing in the Baltics with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in view of the irreconcilable anti-Russian pseudo-Gotho-chauvinism which is taking Baltic states by the storm. German minorities residing on Russian soil can be relocated to the Baltics for lasting harmony, as such a move will also be in line by Germany's plans for the Baltics.

As for Kaliningrad, that enclave is part of a much larger swathe of land which had been stolen by expansionist German Friars who had forayed into eastern lands on the force of mass genocide in the 14th century, timed to coincide with the mayhem wrought by Mongol invasions of Europe. Were it not for the heroic defenders of Russia and Belarus, even Samara and Tver on the Volga would have been exclusively colonised by Germans from 13th century onwards. Kaliningrad is Slavic land that had been stolen by Germans by the sword and fire of Inquisition, and Germans have lost all rights to it for good as part of reparations owed by Nazi Germany post WW2. Period.

The Anglo-American SS weaponized the "collective guilt" psychosis of the German population post-WWII to transition into frightened little weiners.

The Militarist knee-jerks may have something to prove ala "a rendezvous with history".

This is a mess in the making. Trump was so dumb to think that he, by the power of his presence, could work out an agreement in 24 hours.

The U.S. doesn't care about how much of a mess it makes or how many people die as a result of it's meddling in the affairs of other countries.

Making a mess of things is its sole purpose in this world. Now we have Nazis in Ukraine and Germans in Lithuania.

Its a complete S@@@ show.

"Making a mess of things is its sole purpose in this world."

----------

Not the USA's sole purpose, merely our primary tool now for maintaining global control, ever since the founding think tanks of the PNAC codified our long term foreign policy to be preventing even the POSSIBILITY of any competing nation or bloc arising anywhere on the planet from the end of the USSR until the end of time. The rest of the world is for harvesting of natural resources, not a space for development of potential peer competitors.

See "Scarce resources. The Dynamic of American imperialism" by Heather Dean, the US post WWII think tanks had analyzed world resources and population trends, they already knew what needed to be done by the late 1950s. See PDF here:

Russia was always concerned about the US troops and installations, no? Germany on its own is like a pebble stuck in the threads of the shoe, scraping the pavement, and annoying, not even inside the shoe, hurting the foot. Let's see firts how that re-arming goes, combined with the pauperization of German population and continuous de-industrialization, no?

Russia can handle Germans in Lithuania. Americans should not get involved or pushed to pressure Germany in any way.

The fate of Vladimir Bekhterev (literally the day after!) the last time such a leader was psychologically assessed is instructive?

Bekhterev examined Stalin, then was so foolish as to observe to some colleagues "I have just examined a paranoiac with a short, dry hand." Stalin & Beria made sure that he would not speak further on this subject- then his whole body of published work was immediately suppressed until the early 1990s when his thoughts (briefly) were allowed to be acknowledged to have existed again.
