Andrew, we come closer and closer toward the option you had anticipés: the closer and closer rapprochement of Russia and China and the transformation of Russia in a junior partner.

It's very possible that this could become a fait accompli if Putin doesn't soon compromise with Trump over Ukraine, otherwise India might move a lot closer towards the US, thus compelling Russia to move a lot closer to China and therefore risk turning both into the other's junior partners.

Once Democrats take over the President's office in 2029, the deal between India and USA will be off. Trump can head off US Deep State's interference in India's internal affairs. Democrats won't be able to. So Russia just has to survive the coming 3 years.

With such territory and such resources with a so tiny population, Russia can pretend no more to absolute sovereignty.

It could, but only in a true multipolarity. And it will not happen, Trump or no.

So, either Russia let itself torn in small countries by west either it let China dominate their relation.

And one can be sure that soon or late, China will exploit directly all Russian resources east of Ural, oil, gaz, mines, water, wood, arable land and will spread its huge population.

The problem with India is nobody, especially Trump, thinks it matters very much. These "deals" are merely swapping one cost (exports suppressed by tariffs) with another (expensive oil and jets guaranteed to be sitting ducks against their intended targets). All making a poor / weak country even poorer / weaker, in a backdrop where advances in AI is going to decimate the shining light of their service exports. Not only that, Russia has been their steadfast supporter in e.g. the UN Security Council for decades, Modi killing that will leave India with zero powerful friend. But in the grand sceheme globally, this is a nothingburger, I would suggest.

As long as Trump doesn't interfere too strongly with India's Hindus, he can support India in SC too. Once Trump is done, India will resume friendly relations Oop Norrth.

the sitting ducks may very well be also sitting clumsily in the air. remember the

pakistani pilots with the chinese jets? india suffers from unrealistic grandstanding.

the leadership seem to look for internal effects mainly.
