The only way for Serbia to escape this position leads through collapse of collective West. However, a lot of population, even among the participants of the popular protests, still believe in "original european values". Not the students of philosophy in Belgrade university, though. They (most of them) see that main "european value" is racism.
Vucic's game is a form of the shell game with shills on several sides. The only side he does not trick is western masters. Whatever they are forced to say to please their master's voice, there are several shills for domestic market who will follow with explanations and denials that any of that was said in the first place or will say it was a victory against westerners (go figure!).
I doubt history have seen a vassal (colloquially "a rooster* sucker") of greater order who successfully portrayed each and every form of subservience as a victory against oppressor.
Vucic is an ideology-free spineless power grabber who will sit on as many chairs as needed as long as that keeps him in power. My take is that Ruskies simply don't trust the con artist in Belgrade but thread carefully as he's probably the lesser evil for now. Should by some ungodly magic the popular support of Ruskies decline, we'd see the sanctions and betrayal of Russia the moment that support begins to decline. The importance of almost mythical popular support of Russia is critical as despite pretty much all the media in Serbia being western mouth for rent, the popular support of Russia is not declining.
