Nice article.

Clearly, Trump is no history buff. He has a proclivity for exaggeration and bluster. However, he is compelled to adopt a neutral stance. The reason is simple: the Americans have been in bed with the Pakistanis for decades.

I doubt if Trump has read the book 'Deception'. I further doubt if his entire cabinet has ever read it. They would be horrified to learn that the book is an investigative account of Pakistan’s clandestine nuclear weapons program and the complicity of successive U.S. administrations in enabling its development and proliferation.

I doubt many Indians have bothered to read the book, but it makes one understand the dilemma confronting Americans on the prickly issue of how they enabled the Pakistanis to develop a fairly sophisticated nuclear program, which may act as a deterrent to India for many, many years to come.

I, therefore, have always marvelled at the concerns of the Americans regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions. I have also consistently struggled to comprehend why my fellow citizens hold such a deep admiration for America.

For any serious examination of Indo-Pak conflicts, Adrian Levy and Catherine Scott-Clark's Deception: Pakistan, the United States, and the Secret Trade in Nuclear Weapons is an essential read.

IIRC Kashmir was a majority Muslim principality governed by a Hindu prince before half of it was incorporated into the Hindu India in 1947? There is traditional distrust from India vis-a-vis US stance on Kashmir. Southfront just mentioned US aircraft overflowing the Indian side of Kashmiri territory.
