Neither Ukrinform nor the Kyiv Independent can credibly be described as “Russian-friendly”, not to mention “Russian-controlled”, so nobody can claim that they’re pushing “fake news” or “misinformation” about Kiev’s new policy that essentially amounts to the public intent to commit war crimes against the civilian population.
The soft power basis of Kiev’s cause in the latest phase of the Ukrainian Conflict with Russia is that the US-led Western Mainstream Media (MSM) misportrays that crumbling former Soviet Republic as a stalwart defender of international law in contrast to Moscow. This is especially the case when it comes to suspected war crimes, with the MSM never paying any credence to interpretations of the facts which suggest Kiev’s complicity in the killing of civilians or prisoners of war. That purposeful neglect has only emboldened the US’ proxies into pushing ahead with their plans to commit literal genocide in any of the liberated territories that they might manage to retake from Russia, no matter how briefly.
State news agency Ukrinform reported on Ministry of Internal Affairs spokeswoman Matveeva’s briefing earlier this week, during which time she declared that receiving Russian humanitarian aid is considered “collaborationism”. The Kyiv Independent tweeted about this too and also reminded its 2.1 million followers on that platform that “acts of collaborationism will be punished by up to 15 years in jail.” Neither outlet can credibly be described as “Russian-friendly”, not to mention “Russian-controlled”, so nobody can claim that they’re pushing “fake news” or “misinformation” about Kiev’s new policy that essentially amounts to the public intent to commit war crimes against the civilian population.
To explain, no civilian can be punished for accepting humanitarian aid regardless of whoever they receive it from. All conflicts carry with them immense physical costs for those living in such zones, especially when infrastructure is destroyed and commodity supply lines grind to a halt. Nobody can be blamed for accepting the bare necessities that they and their loved ones require to continue living. To declare that doing so is equivalent to “collaborationism” and thus subject to up to 15 years of imprisonment is absolutely illegal in the eyes of international law, thus completely discrediting the artificially manufactured soft power basis upon which Kiev’s cause in this conflict is built.
This development isn’t surprising for astute observers who were already well aware of the countless war crimes that Western-backed Kiev committed with impunity in the over eight years since the Ukrainian Conflict began even before Amnesty International recently proved that its forces were illegally militarizing residential areas and thus exploiting civilians there as human shields to halt the pace of Russia’s slow but steady advance. Even so, the vast majority of the Western public probably never countenanced that the same side who they’ve been brainwashed into thinking are the so-called “good guys” would threaten to imprison civilians for a decade and a half just for accepting humanitarian aid.
It's for this reason why activists should prioritize bringing this to their attention, especially by emphasizing that Ukrinform is state media while the Kyiv Independent can de facto be considered as such, thus meaning that there’s no reason to doubt the credibility of their related reports. It remains to be seen whether the MSM will pick up on this story like they did Amnesty International’s damning report, but that scenario can’t be dismissed seeing as how CBS News, CNN, and The Guardian recently published their own unsavory reports about Kiev over the past few weeks. It would therefore be proverbial icing on the cake for them to focus on its latest intent to commit even more war crimes.
In any case, whoever becomes aware of this official policy that was just confirmed by the Ministry of Affairs’ spokeswoman will realize that everything they’d been hitherto told by the MSM about the Ukrainian Conflict has been a lie. It’s not Russia that’s carrying out a genocide in Eastern Europe, but Kiev, which intends to punish those same people that it supposedly considers “its own” for simply accepting humanitarian aid from Moscow in order to survive. This is the dictionary definition of political retribution that arguably constitutes a war crime under international law, yet the only way for its representatives to be held to account for this is if they face a tribunal after the conflict finally ends.
There is no chance at all that any MSM or official government acknowledgement of Ukraine's war crimes. It's a futile hope to expect so.
