It’s Ridiculous To Fearmonger About Russian-Nicaraguan Military Ties
A top Russian anchor playfully toyed with the idea of her country dispatching “something powerful closer to the American city on a hill”, which immediately caught the attention of a few folks in America who interpreted this as a signal from the Kremlin that a new missile crisis or something similar is about to break out in the region.
The US-led Western Mainstream Media (MSM) has been going wild ever since Nicaragua’s latest routine biannual legal procedure of granting the temporary stay of certain countries’ military forces on its territory for training purposes. There’s nothing new in this happening since it’s already been the case for the past couple of years that Managua authorized such access for the armed forces of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Russia, the US, and Venezuela, but the unprecedentedly intense New Cold War context prompted a lot of speculation from some observers.
A top Russian anchor playfully toyed with the idea of her country dispatching “something powerful closer to the American city on a hill”, which immediately caught the attention of a few folks in America who interpreted this as a signal from the Kremlin that a new missile crisis or something similar is about to break out in the region. That’s an inaccurate assessment of this routine development, however, but is influenced by the false fantasy that everything that anyone says on Russian TV is supposedly scripted word-for-word by the government.
Viewed from this twisted perspective, it’s understandable why those observers would wrongly interpret that anchor’s deliberate trolling as some kind of secret message about what to expect next from this legal move, which many weren’t even aware is something that occurs on a biannual basis. In their minds, this multipolar conservative-sovereigntist (MCS) state whose relations with the US have worsened in recent years following Washington’s unsuccessful attempts to orchestrate a Color Revolution against it is preparing for a dramatic showdown with the declining unipolar hegemon.
The timing, despite being purely coincidental, overlapped with the US’ unsuccessful so-called “Summit of the Americas” that excluded Nicaragua and other regional MCS countries like Cuba and Venezuela. That in turn triggered the literal conspiracy theorists who unconvincingly disguise themselves as “experts” and “journalists” to share their wild speculation that something foul is afoot, all with an intent to rile up the public and precondition them for what might be yet another US-driven destabilization attempt against Nicaragua, albeit this time carried out on an imaginary anti-Russian pretext.
The truth is a lot less exciting, however. This routine procedure is simply a legal mechanism to enable Nicaragua’s partners to participate in training exercises and other forms of cooperation on its territory. The invitation that’s always extended to the US seems to be purely for optics’ sake in order to not feed into the conspiracy theorists’ fearmongering about its military intentions. With respect to Nicaragua’s cooperation with Russia and other MCS like Cuba and Venezuela, these are truly respected and reliable partners that have proven their worth to the country over the years, especially recently.
Unlike the US-led West’s network of unipolar liberal-globalist (ULG) proxy states, these genuinely sovereign countries have supported Nicaragua in the face of escalating regime change pressure against it over the past few years. They understand the importance of strengthening a MCS state in the center of the Western Hemisphere that the US wrongly regards as its exclusive “sphere of influence”, ergo why they’re interested in enhancing its military and other security capabilities so that it can better defend itself from Washington’s panoply of Hybrid War threats.
In practice, there’s no credible chance that Russian-Nicaraguan military ties will ever be aimed against any third country. First, they’re located on opposite sides of the world from one another so it’s practically impossible for Russia to establish reliable military lines of communication to indefinitely maintain a “threatening” presence that that couldn’t easily be cut off by the US. Building upon that observation, the second point debunking the conspiracy theorists’ fearmongering is that Nicaragua can be blockaded by the US in the worst-case scenario in order to “contain” any so-called “Russian threats”.
Third, it’s extremely unlikely that Russia could clandestinely establish the military infrastructure needed to “threaten” the US from Nicaragua since there’d be tell-tale signs that it’s happening such as the dispatch of certain air of naval units capable of carrying missiles or whatever else plus satellite footage of the planned site where these systems would be deployed. As for the fourth point, human sources on the ground could at least in theory collect evidence of this happening and send it back to the US so that its intelligence agencies can then amplify it through the MSM in order to raise global awareness.
And finally, the fifth and most obvious point is that neither Russia nor Nicaragua has any such intentions in the first place, knowing very well how fiercely the US would react and likely fearing that it might even go as far as launching its own military operation there in the worst-case scenario in order to “neutralize” the “threat” if yet another Color Revolution or Unconventional Warfare (terrorism) campaign doesn’t succeed to that end. For all these reasons, there’s no credible basis to fear Russian-Nicaraguan military ties no matter how wildly the MSM’s conspiracy theorists hype them up for ratings.
