Once again, Polish authorities—regardless of which party is in power—prove that they operate at a geopolitical kindergarten level. Nawrocki, whose entire electoral narrative was built on ‘independence,’ ‘conservatism,’ and unusually non–pro-Ukrainian statements for Polish politics, has ultimately shown that he will still dance to whatever tune the Eurocratic agenda plays.
Instead of learning from Orbán how to operate in high-level geopolitics—cutting deals with Trump one day and securing stable relations and agreements with Russia the other day, all while keeping the cheapest energy and gas bills in Europe—Nawrocki has just further undermined relations within the Visegrád Group.
This raises a question: will Nawrocki also refuse to meet with his favorite figure, Trump, simply because Trump meets and talks with Putin as well?
As a Pole watching all of this from the inside, I can confidently say it is total clownery—and with this approach, Poland will always be exploited by every side, only to later wonder why it keeps happening.

I’ll put it this way — yes, the ruling class is the main culprit behind what is happening in Poland, and this can be applied globally as well, since most governments today operate in the interests of the same people, for the same money. However, I must also bitterly admit that Poles, as a nation, are among the societies most susceptible to manipulation. My compatriots are, unfortunately, largely unreformable, and it’s difficult to see any real desire for change among them.
Of course, generalisations are dangerous — but the elections of the last 30 years, and especially the last 10–15, clearly show that Poles ‘prefer’ to remain in the role of a vassal. On the other hand, it is the political class that has shaped the nation this way and, sadly, another bitter conclusion follows: it has effectively limited people’s ability to think critically and analyse the world in a healthy, rational way.
I’m on Substack partly because on X I constantly encountered toxicity from my fellow Poles — and it is genuinely painful to admit this. And yet, once again, the fact remains: the political class has turned Poles into obedient, internally divided sheep, which conveniently serves the two parties that alternate in power. The deeper issue is that Poles are far from waking up — and I’m not quite sure why. That, however, is a topic for a broader sociological and psychological analysis.
As for Marx, in this case it’s hard not to agree with him.

I also believe NATO is a disaster — it gives people a false sense of security they’ve been fed for decades. “Coming back to our European governments — ultimately, I believe democracy makes no sense anymore. It is completely manipulated and distorted by the media, financed by the same interests. Elections are often nothing more than popularity contests, with no real indicator of competence or effectiveness. Europe is completely lacking even basic elements of meritocracy.
We've seen conservatives everywhere serving Davos and it's oligarchs. We've seen social-democrates betraying their electors for them: Mitterand first, then Blair, Zapaterro, Rienzi, Schroeder and other european "socialists". And then we saw radical left betraying their electors for them, Tsipras in Greece, Podemos in Spain and then "nationalists" ( of my ass) are betraying their electors for Davos: Meloni, Poles, tomorrow Bardella( who was leftist before) in France.
The Polish have to recognize that the Populist trend in Europe is strengthening and they will not fall for a Superpower Poland if it rests on a new US intrusion into Europe. Poland just might be walking into a dead end street. If they cool their relations with Germany, Russia and half of Europe for a pat on the shoulder from America they just might get shortchanged by the next US administration.

Unfortunately, the ruling Polish duopoly has serious psychological complexes that manifest themselves in subservience to one foreign master or another, whether Germany with respect to the ruling liberal-globalist "Civic Coalition" (KO) or the US with regard to the conservative "Law & Justice" (PiS) opposition. The only thing that unites them is hatred of Russia.

In a parliamentary democracy (incl Poland), the principal power is with the Prime-Minister, not with the President. So I would guess Nawrocki is triangulating, trying to get as many subsidies from the EU while somewhat dampening a break-neck speed of escalatation. Doing that may permit Poland to avoid EU censure for not allowing out-of Europe migrants into Poland. IIRC Poland actually sent 15k "volunteers" into Ukraine in 2022, but they were mostly withdrawn after half of them got killed or MIA? I don't think Poland is eager on a replay.
