It's not Zelensky's fault that he takes Poland for granted. Poland gives unconditionally, he takes unconditionally.

Agreed, it's like how Trump said back in 2016 how he doesn't hate Mexico or China for taking advantage of the US, he hates corrupt American politicians for letting them.

This kinda goes along with your earlier comments about Poland taking over the leading role from Germany does it not? Any other position could jeopardize that me thinks..🤔

There as been centuries of animosity by Riussians & Ukrainians against Poles. So Poles do not matter as to what happens in Ukraine. Ukraine should join up with Russia and become the Biggest country in the world with the biggest reserves of minerals, energy and " 80% of the black earth soil in the world". Ukrainians say plant a spade in the ground and it will grow, such is the richnest of their soil

That was tried in early 1600s and didn't succeed. Because Poles are Catholic and Russians are Orthodox. Similar to N Ireland vs Irish Republic.

A shame that Poland doesn’t have any politicians of Pilsudskis ambition and vision. Galicia is right there for the taking.

The overwhelming majority of Poles don't want to reclaim their lost territories since they don't want to be responsible for the several million Ukrainians there. This group would also form a voting bloc that would forever change contemporary Polish politics.

It's enough that Poles can freely travel to Ukraine to visit historical sites and ancestral graves (except of those whose relatives were slaughtered during the Volhynia genocide since they haven't been exhumed and properly buried).

I thought at one point that Poland might militarily intervene in that part of Ukraine, even in a non-combat role, but the current President ruled that out completely. I also had such suspicions shortly after "EuroMaidan" but they never panned out.

Nevertheless, some Russian officials and many "Non-Russian Pro-Russians" (NRPRs), especially top influencers, insist that this is still a credible scenario. It's unclear whether they sincerely believe this or if it's some sort of "psy-op".

Personally, while I don't fault average folks for still thinking this, I believe that it worsens people-to-people ties when Russian officials push this narrative while most Poles know that it isn't going to happen since it makes them question their motives.

IIRC Col Douglas MacGregor was voicing rumors back in 2022/2023 that there were something like 10k Polish soldiers who volunteered to fight in Ukrainian uniforms, but that these were withdrawn after the Bakhmut debacle. Has that been refuted? I would guess that forensic scientists of RF army are doing DNA screens on the fallen and captured hostile soldiers to be sure of their original whereabouts?

I don't take MacGregor seriously after he's been wrong about so much; either he's trapped in his false worldview which has little connection to reality or he's grifting, but either way, I don't consider him reliable.

As for what he said, Russia also claims that there are many Polish mercenaries fighting for Ukraine, but that's not the same as Poland preparing to restore control over the lands that it used to rule.

There are very few Poles left who live in Galicia and Lemberg. No-one would resettle them there. Besides, the multiethnicity in post-1920 was difficult for Poland to manage. I would just want to remind that most Poles including its government longed to resettle Polish Jews to the territory of the British Mandate in the Middle East.

" Poles including its government longed to resettle Polish Jews to the territory of the British Mandate in the Middle East. "

Do you blame them ?

barnabus's avatar

I blame the British, because they didn't allow this to take place.

It aint goin to happen

If Poland tried to take Galicia the Galicians would call to Moscow for help and the Russians would come to their rescue.
