Andrew, you're absolutely right.

And further more, this strange typical modern westerners obsession in counting the beans is inept.

Because the two last WW saw country with few natural resources and demography (Germany, Japan) against huge countries with huge piles of resources (USA, UK and french empire, USSR) , westerners are now so obsessed by numbers that they forget something fundamental.

The best king of France's history was Henri IV. He was also the best military captain of his time. He also said:" There are no good walls without good men".

That mean that the best fortress worth nothing with bad soldiers or/and bad leaders.

He became the best captain because with his protestant army, he always had to fight with catholic troops ten time bigger.

We have a exemple with Ukraine where it's far less the western supplies than the heroism of ukrainian soldiers which, to everyone surprise, resist against Russians far more hugely equipped.

We can say the same with Afghans or Vietnamese.

The value of an army is depending of its purposes( defense, expansion, projection) and the men who transform a pile of weapons and a horde of civilians in a deadly and unbreakable tool.

For that reason, everybody knows that if Russians are terrible ennemies when they defend their land, they don't really enjoy in attacking their neighbours.

Once more, Poles leaders deserved their nickname in UE elite: "Donkey".

1: they counted beans.

2: they did it without own resources nor self military industry or demographic capacity

3 they did it against an enemy who have absolutely no reason nor interest invaded it.

Poor Poles. One more reason to make them similar to French: good folks with a genius for choosing the worst leaders possible.
