One factor is that Russia is uninterested in helping revisionist “anti-imperialist” powers like Iran disrupt more pragmatic concerns like economic integration and regional stability. Furthermore, siding with pro-Islamist actors, such as many “alt-media” N.R.P.R.s seem to be, could have unfavorable geopolitical implications for Russian security, if joining Iran and/or the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) bloc (Turkey/Qatar + Pakistan) emboldens those actors on Russia’s southern periphery (the latter both support Ukraine and the TRIPP agenda).

This is rarely mentioned, but the state of U.S./EU–Russia relations these days seems to fluctuate in tandem with Iranian and/or MB interests. Whenever West–Russia ties decline, whether over Ukraine or other matters, West–Islamist ties tend to strengthen. Moreover, the “liberal-globalist” faction(s) and its N.R.P.R. “allies” are most closely associated with this “anti-imperialist” Islamism. Russia has no reason to empower this nexus, given its vulnerability to separatism and/or insurgency and its demographic shortcomings.

Another aspect is that the Russian leadership, and Putin in particular, actually *is* pro-Western, albeit not in favor of the current liberal-left (“globalist”) establishment in the EU and elsewhere. One must not forget that Yeltsin handpicked Putin as his successor *precisely* because he could count on the latter to continue his policies. Furthermore, for most of the 2000s both the Bush administration and key EU states like France and Germany actually maintained decent relations with Russia, prior to the “globalist” reshuffling under Obama/Biden.

Finally, Venezuela was also closely tied to the milieus I mentioned via its links with Iran, or was reputed to be. This also influences Russian calculations, which are predicated on a worldview that decisively clashes with that of the “anti-imperialist” liberal-left/Islamist N.R.P.R. perspective. Iran’s many attempts to drag or manipulate Russia into a direct conflict with Israel, along with its backing of Trump’s opponents and support for proxy conflicts abroad, have done little to endear it to Putin (or Xi, for that matter).

It's absolutely right.

I ask myself if russian leaders realise the terrible harm done to the reputation of Russia.

But it seems that Russians leaders themselves like Potemkine claims.

But when I see the still growing audience of PRNR bloggers despite all their fails.

In Europe, there is the same disenchantment with the NAFOs bloggers.

At my huge surprise, I notice that French are probably the most allergic to the critics, and that for government, MSM or AMC.
