Blaming each other allows NATO and Ukraine to claim reasonable doubt, in the same way that America and China blamed each other for the COVID pandemic. One of the main reasons why people like Tusk want to avoid a trial is because it might remove this convenient ambiguity, and point the finger of blame at the guilty party, which is the US, UK and NATO.

This attitude, historic as well as political, of Poland seems to me one of the saddest aspects of the entire situation in Europe. I feel like saying to the Poles “Get over it “. However far back the European split goes - and I would date it from 800CE - when Charlemagne crowned himself Holy Roman Emperor and managed to sideline the Eastern Roman Empire/Orthodox Church. The Roman Catholic Church it seems to me never forgave Russia for choosing Orthodoxy and of course Poland is the cutting edge of Catholicism in Eastern Europe so there has to be some effect of that in Polish attitudes as well as all the other rivalries…but there comes a time when we all have to let things go and appreciate our neighbors. I am a Scot. We know all about that process. I admit I personally find it very hard to accept the place in the world my country has been pressured into given its geography. In the 17th century many Scots found acceptance in Russian society while English society although we shared a king excluded them. By the 18th century Scots were running the British Empire. Poland, as well as the rest of Europe, would do much better to forget its poisonous relationship with the US and get on with its neighbours.
