Could it have been a deliberate provocation from the Ukrainian side, in order to make the Russians look bad and derail the peace negotiations? After all, the Ukrainians know very well, from experience, that the Russians will strike at such military gatherings.

but nobody cares about Ukraine anymore and on the contrary, in the US at a minimum -- we're sick of hearing about them and seeing their creepy little drug-addicted dictator making scenes in public about nobody helping them. Sticky-fingered third-rate comic. Nobody at all outside us few "constant observers" remembers even Bucha, one of the first false-flag attacks on Ukrainians by the Ukrainian forces -- why would they care about a place called Sumy on the frontlines getting hit? Ho-hum. Another day, another dead body delivered back home.

Justified strike on a military target with "collateral damage." It's war and civilians always die, even if not targeted directly.

It is a similar situation to when Americans bombed Iraq's air defense bunkers with penetration bombs. Huge civilian casualties came up as some local commanders allowed civilians who wanted to get shelter from the bombing. Americans claimed Iraq's military used human shields and continued bombing until Iraq's air defense was crushed, and likely went on beyond that point. And then there are so many civilian casualties caused by US bombings all around the world. I think those Iraqi commanders were more decent than this specific Ukrainian governor while the American bombings worldwide have far less justification.

This is a war. The fools of west Ukraine brought together their big offensive planning team (or was it just a "military awards ceremony"?) and Russia hit it. These are cowards who use civilians as their defense. And if the ceremony included a bunch of NATO military officials, all I can say is this: yahoo! They should all stay out of Ukraine, where they have absolutely no business being except to create mayhem.

Since you speak Polish, here is a vlog with a segment about Sumy event: https://youtu.be/AZ0Ug3BBdUE?si=eKMLhCxQiji1B2SJ&t=1797 The author is as Russophobic as they get in Poland, but his take on this subject is refreshingly unbiased. Summary: justified strike on a military target.

My Polish actually isn't good at all, unfortunately, since I didn't grow up with my Polish-speaking dad due to my parents divorcing when I was young. I studied it a bit on my own with DuoLingo during COVID in order to learn the basics but didn't continue due to time constraints (family, work, hobbies, etc., which include reading English-language Polish history books though!).

My assumption was wrong, then. Interesting tidbits in that YouTube video are cases of Russian precision strikes on empty restaurants after they received information about gathering of military personnel, which was subsequently cancelled at the last moment. There are many Russia supporters in eastern regions of Ukraine, who provide information about planned events of this kind.

Hamas and Hezbollah use human shields all the time. Why shouldn't Ukrainians do that too?

hey, from where I sit I can't see that much furor over the Ukrainian civilians getting blown up. We have quite a few Ukrainians living here (Florida) and they are not very active any Ionger in supporting "home." And I recall the daily reporting of dead civilians in Donetsk, people going about their ordinary lives, mowed down by Ukrainian drones and missile strikes, killings that only stopped when the Russians rolled in. I think if there is going to be a war crimes trial, the entire Zelensky regime should be indicted. And Bucha should be on the list, because first hand observers point straight to the Ukrainians having carried out that massacre, tying the hands of the corpses behind them so folks would believe the Russians did it (the ribbons were all white). Kiev was given free rein to act as they pleased, armed with NATO weapons. (Of course, there ARE no NATO weapons!) And they acted as was their wont, brutally and stupidly. I feel sorry for the Ukrainian refugees, but the party they need to address isn't those who wouldn't die for Ukraine, but the crooks snorting it up the nose and enjoying the goodies that come with power.

The only evidence of use of human shields is IDF tying prisoners on their military trucks or forcing prisoners to enter buildings to detect booby traps. As for Hamas and Hezbollah using human shields, how can that be the case when we heard from Israelis that all Palestinians are terorists, including the newborns? So what is it? Are they all terrorist or are they terrorists hiding among civilians? Can't be both, no?

The event is hard to comprehend it is so tragic. May ALL who contributed to dragging the Ukrainian and Russian population into this conflict burn in hell for eternity. And I am looking at Biden (together with those who operated his autopen machine), Zelensky and now the majority of the European NATO leaders who are pushing this war forward.

"Zelensky is] always looking to purchase missiles. When you start a war, you got to know that you can win the war. You don’t start a war against somebody that’s 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles.”

Imho that's the most important thing about this event. Actually a political landslide. So, who was it again that started this war? Strangely enough, almost no one seems to notice.

This is the same playbook they always use- PR war ops. In Bosnia they even had Izetbegovic strike his own people in a shopping mall and blames it on the Serbs (Read ‘Unholy terror’ by an intelligence official.) And they took pictures of skinny people in parks and made it look like they were in camps behind bars. Surely Russia & Putin know their playbook. You always have to watch out for them. It doesn’t matter if in reality if you are right because they control the media and will persuade 80% of the population you’re at fault. They take smear-pressure to an art form.

"...assembled this legitimate target in ______ which he then surrounded with de facto human shields.."

"...the civilian casualties caused by the collateral damage from this strike serve as the perfect pretext for rallying _____ against the ____ ..."

(fill in blanks as required)

.

Above gambit sounds familiar as it was exploited so many times

Gambits work well when new (i.e. Bosnian Muslim withdrawal from peace agreement in 90's) but when flogged to death it only fatigues even own supporters.

I wonder if the civilians that were invited knew that they were being used as human shields? And some brought their children with them...

Све ће се то променити доласком човека из Јовановог откривења са њим ће бити и небо и Земља и сви Анђели и тај човек ће бити проглашен од стране руског народа за цара у разореном истанбулу и он ће повратити славу и поштовање руске душе .
