Thank you! What I truly believe happened is that one of his "trusted sources", likely an intelligence one, misled him as part of an information warfare campaign that they hoped to have him wage against India as a false flag implicating Russia due to his known ties with top officials and him publishing his two-part series on a Russian platform.
Given that he has a place in France and hasn't ever disclosed any problems returning to the EU despite meeting with Russia, Chinese, and Iranian officials, including sanctioned Russians, it's very possible that his "European intel friend" is French and he's their "asset", thus leading to my personal speculation that France is behind this.
Right now Russia is competing with France to supply India's next generation of warplanes so France might want to falsely implicate Russia in an infowar against India waged by Pepe on a Russian platform in the hopes that this can tilt the odds in its favor of Indian officials choosing the Rafales over Russia's SU-57s.
I personally believe that one of his Russian official friends needs to intervene, inform him of how unacceptable this was due to the literally multibillion-dollar stakes involved, and possibly even tell him that he's no longer welcome here after what he did.
I very much doubt that they'll do the last-mentioned since he has too large of a following for them to remove him from Russia's "global media ecosystem" (Russia has an interest in him continuing to parrot top talking points), but they should scold him at the very least.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Indian officials inquire into this since he's friends with so many top Russian officials, especially Lavrov with whom he meets yearly as part of their shared membership in the International Russophile Movement, so they might really be fooled into thinking that this is the first-ever Russian infowar on Russia.
Actually, there is an army of intellectual saboteurs who have made India their second home by getting married into priestcrafty echelons of Indian society, who have a robust following on their You Tube channels where they have shadow-banned all counter-opinions and rebuttal, who behave as warriors of the EU's war of acrimonious narratives against Russia on Indian soil, most notably persons such as Karolina Goswami who is a Pole by nationality yet has little compunctions even about turning on fellow Poles in most dishonest character assassination in furtherence of this 'war', who lurk in wait to seize upon every utilisable opportunity to misportray the gaffes (I would use that word to sound polite) made by men like Escobar as proofs of Russian malice towards India on official level. Karolina Goswami has made many past attempts of exploiting exactly such circumstances in very dishonest fashion.
Pepe Escobar alleges a lot of things that are untrue. Same for Alex Krainer. Yet they are all over alternative media. In alternative media, the more you screw up, the more visible and famous you are.
I don't follow Alex's work even though we're friends on X so I can't comment on it, but I fully agree that failure is rewarded in the Alt-Media Community so long as it's lying in a way that makes certain states look good (or so the liar and their intended audience imagine). That's the essence of what I've termed "Potemkinsim", which I fully oppose:
I agree Andrew. Its why I have stopped following all so-called political analysts, except for you and Brian Berletic. I don't necessarily agree with everything both of you say but I like that you both have integrity and will only say what you truly believe in, i.e. you have not sold your soul to a state, entity, organization or individual. You don't claim to have "intel" info and you dont just sit there theorizing about the world and sharing personal feelings and perceptions that you present as solid research and evidence. I just wish we can see you appear on some of these shows more often Andrew.
Thanks, but right now it's too difficult to do phone and video interviews. We have a two-year-old and a seven-year-old and my wife and I divide responsibilities between them. The younger one can also be VERY LOUD at times, including random times, and could disrupt recordings.
I'll therefore have to wait a few more years before I consider the podcast circuit, but generally speaking, it really isn't my preference. I prefer writing, always have, and it enables my non-native-English-speaking audience to more easily understand what I'm conveying since they can just use Google Translate.
Unfortunately, yes, and I suspect that his official friends here had no idea about his self-admitted foreign intel ties that by definition make him the "asset" of at least three (!!!) foreign intelligence agencies, including a European one that's most likely among the countries officially designated by Russia as "unfriendly".
You think they wouldn't know such a thing Andrew? Are they this gullible? Could it be that they know his foreign intel connections and are thus feeding him wrongful info intentionally?
I have two hypotheses: 1) they really had no idea because he only revealed this twice within just a total of several seconds amidst the dozens of podcasts that he does every year; or 2) they somehow discovered it but were duped by his "charming" personality (as a friend who's his fan described it to me a while back) and think that he can serve to convey Russian talking points to his foreign intel partners and maybe advance Russian interests as a so-called "double agent".
I lean much more towards the first hypothesis though since it really looks bad that Russia allows someone who's literally the "asset" (by the textbook definition of his relationship with these spy agencies) of at least three (!!!) foreign intel agencies to establish friendships with so many leading officials. Imagine if it was discovered that an asset of three foreign intel agencies was friends with Rubio, his spokesperson (whoever they are), figures on Capitol Hill, and prominent analysts, journalists, etc.
It would be a national, nay, an international, scandal that would result in resignations and a massive investigation. It's especially scandalous in Pepe's case since he admitted to having a "European intelligence friend" and it's almost certain that this "friend" is French since he lives there half a year and never had any problems returning after meeting sanctioned Russians despite Jacques Baud being persecuted by the EU for much less, and France is officially designated by Russia as an "unfriendly" country (government).
I can't imagine Russia risking such a scandal on its side just to use Pepe as a "double agent" or whatever, which is why I believe that it really had no idea about these ties, or maybe he alluded to them but in a casual way that was made to seem like it's part of his "journalistic duties" or whatever. Either way, it looks very, very bad, and it's the reason why I believe that he was duped yet again by a foreign intel service into once again discrediting Russia just like he did in spring 2024 (hyperlinked in his name in my piece):
Pepe Escobar is greatly overrated in alternative media outside of Russia. Several reports about him have already demonstrated that one shouldn't switch off one's own critical thinking after reading Pepe's accounts. Pepe is a valuable addition to one's understanding; his views should never be accepted as the sole basis for opinion.
Thanks for setting the record straight, besides you and several others, Pepe is one of my go to researchers on foreign affairs that I link quite often and I did link his two articles on this topic @https://nothingnewunderthesun2016.com/. Will be linking this one today to help clear the air.
Yes, I believe that the presumable French intel connection (being the most likely "European intel friend" that he has since he lives there half the year but never disclosed any problems returning there after traveling to Russia, China, and Iran and meeting with sanctioned Russians) is responsible for this.
how do you explain hindutva? oppression of indian muslim? modi's travel to Israel at the height of genocide and its attack on iran? modi is bringing israel to central asia. i'm surprised that iran is so forgiving. clearly iran wants to preserve BRICS despite india's wish to sabotage it and suck up to US-Israel. i call that betrayal. and it was sri lanka that saved the iranian sailors. india hands off. eager to court israel. that's got to be classic treachery.
On the face of it, the actions of Modi speaks for itself. India probably did not give up the location and coordinates of the Iranian Naval ship, but they certainly did nothing, as known from open source info, to offer sanctuary or any other type of assistance. Nonetheless, it does not discount the cringe lovefest Modi had with Bibi in Israel or Modi cutting off Russian oil imports to satisfy Trump. Pepe does not "insider" Russian info to come to the conclusion that India is untrustworthy partner in BRICS.
The U.S. and Israel are solely responsible for all the death, destruction, and suffering occurring in the Middle East now. Iran has no choice but to continue on until it is certain that it has ended the nearly five-decades-long undeclared war of violence, sanctions, and sabotage against it by the U.S. and Israel. Should Iran allow itself to be be endlessly victimized by two genocidal regimes determined to destroy it?
I acknowledge your point, but can you please elaborate on it so that it's more relevant to the topic of my analysis? How does this relate to what the Iranian and Russian Ambassadors to India just said and/or connects to what Pepe falsely claimed (and was just debunked by the aforesaid two officials)?
I see what you're saying, but I really do believe that these are sincere statements from their envoys and see no reason to doubt their sincerity. They really don't seem to believe that India "betrayed" them at all. The Iranian one especially just effusively praised India afterwards too:
Not just Pepe but the entire gang of Judge Napalitano has been spreading fake news about India namely 1. Douglas McGregor US using Indian port 2. Larry Johnson on Indian fuel shortages 3. Jeffery sachs on India betraying BRICS 4. Alistair crooke on India losing war to Pakistan
So this is definitely a co ordinated exercise mostly originating from Russia
Alastair Crooke is severely compromised. He is literally the British MI6 agent responsible for moving weapons into Afghanistan for the Taliban. Has extensive connections with the ISI. Not a word he says about Pakistan or India can be taken at face value.
Rohit, none of the persons mentioned by you are Russians, nor do they reside in Russia. They had however been part of the American deep state at some point in their career. If you can furnish objective proof to back your polemics, that would be greatly appreciated.
Amy Goodman and CJ Werleman keep accusing India of planning genocide of Muslims, but they have absolutely no ties with Russia and are known to be affiliated with western intelligence agencies from data-on-file.

None of that is considered a "betrayal" since everyone knows about India's diplomatic balancing act. If anyone had false expectations of supporting Iran over Israel and the US, then they were misled by Alt-Media's lies into thinking that BRICS is an anti-Western bloc.
" If anyone had false expectations of supporting Iran over Israel and the US "
So its not a "balancing" act after all. Otherwise, India wouldn't side with anyone and treat all parties equally. Isnt that what "non-aligned" nations supposed to do ?
It is a balancing act, but it doesn't mean that India will always be neutral. Russia balances too, but it openly sympathizes with Iran, while India openly criticized attacks against the Gulf Kingdoms, but both want the war to stop ASAP.
But back to my point, yes, many, many people were duped by Alt-Media lies into thinking that BRICS is an anti-Western bloc even though it was never anything of the sort and this was always pure "Potemkinism" pushed by some here for rallying the Global South and pressuring fellow members into opposing the US:
Then they should openly place the blame on the attackers and demand that they cease immediately. Implying that, somehow, Iran is also to blame for whats going on is an impotent, cowardly response.
Okay, but that's your policy suggestion, which doesn't reflect how they're actually trying to do that, for better or for worse, whether successfully or not. What I try to do is discover the actual policy and then assess how it's being implemented.
In any case, we're already a few degrees removed from my point about how the Iranian and Russian Ambassadors debunked the false claim that India "betrayed" them both, which went viral after Pepe promoted it, both on his social media and on the Moscow-based SCF.
What I'd like to do is return to that topic instead of continue elaborating on tangential issues, in this case the specific form that Russia and India's balancing acts in the region take. Neither Russia nor Iran believes that India betrayed it as proven by their ambassadors.
Fair enough point taken, although, Its my believe that trying to analyze these purely through an academic lens and based on governmental public statements will never reveal the complete picture.
In regards to India, did they ever invite Iran for joint exercises in the past ? When was Iran actually invited ? Why was the Iranian ship unarmed, were all the other participants ? Was the US sub part of the exercises ? Did India ask the Iranian ship to leave its waters, knowing the US was monitoring everything ? Was the Iranian ship given assurances by India ?
What they did was gradually reduce their oil purchases, and as for contemporary prices, they're amidst a global oil crisis and after the US temporarily waived its sanctions on all Russian oil at sea at the time of its decision so it's understandable that Russia would charge everyone -- and not just India --more than before to get the most money possible.
So you would like to believe that the recent security deal between Israel and India is meaningless also? Much kissing and hugging after the announcement.
Diplomats have to be nice to each other to account for future developments.
Yes, indeed, because it's completely meaningless in this context. Almost all of Iran's state-level partners have ties with Israel, including Russia's, which were once so close that Russia coordinated the creation of a buffer zone on Syria's side of the Golan Heights from which Iranian forces were expelled:
"Russia also managed to secure the withdrawal of all Iran-backed groups from the Golan Heights to a "safe distance for Israel," more than 140 kilometers to the east of Syria, the spokesperson said, adding that this was done at the request of Tel Aviv. "A total of 1,050 personnel, 24 MLRSs and tactical missiles, as well as 145 pieces of other munitions and military equipment were withdrawn from the area," Konashenkov told journalists."
In fact, Russia was always without exception made aware of every Israeli strike against the IRGC and its allies in Syria per September 2015's "deconfliction mechanism" that was agreed to between Bibi and Putin shortly before Russia's anti-terrorist intervention there. Even so, Iran never considered that a "betrayal", and it doesn't consider India's incomparably less close cooperation with Israel to be one either.
Also, if there was any truth whatsoever to the claim that India "betrayed" Russia and Iran, then their ambassadors could have diplomatically lent it credence through some acceptable innuendo but neither did and there's no credible reason to doubt their sincerity.
What's actually happening is that another collective delusion is sweeping across the Alt-Media Community, but unlike the usual ones, this one was arguably seeded by whichever of Pepe's foreign intel sources was the one that provided him this false "privileged info".
I personally suspect that it's France's, which I believe that he's working with to some degree as strongly suggested by him not having disclosed any problems returning to the EU after publicly meeting with sanctioned Russian officials despite the EU persecuting people like Jacques Baud for much, much less.
I don't believe that at all. Russia and India, and Putin and Modi in particular, are very, very close. I assess there to be no realistic chance of Putin authorizing a Russian infowar on India via Pepe. He either did this entirely on his own or at the urging of one of his foreign intel contacts who wanted to implicate Russia in a false flag infowar to advance their own state interests.
I respect your opinions, I really do.. and I hasten to admit I know nothing .. but I saw the media of Modi and Netanyahu and what they engaged in was more than just protocol, more a genuine, bro love-in and symbolic joining at the hip. Modi is a master politician, but not somebody to be trusted… more an Erdogan in a Kurta Pyjama . All leaders have an adviser team to help them make/formulate decisions but like Trump I would assume they are there because they align with Modi’s Hindu Nationalism vs Islam.
I also take your point about Russia/Israel relationship.. Putin even said once that Israel has over a million Russian speaking citizens and they need to be taken into account.
Very good, Sherlock! It’s all about doing the proper research, which is an absolute must, given distorted social media, AI and fakes galore.
Thank you! What I truly believe happened is that one of his "trusted sources", likely an intelligence one, misled him as part of an information warfare campaign that they hoped to have him wage against India as a false flag implicating Russia due to his known ties with top officials and him publishing his two-part series on a Russian platform.

Will India pay for the planes in Rupees or Dollars ?
It's unclear.
Dzięki, If Russia takes Rupees for the planes they are seriously idiotic.

Ok, Escobar is , at least, a jester( at worst...) but I will certainly not believe an official diplomat.
I think that India betray permanently depending it's interests.
But the job of russian and Iranian diplomats is not to insult the future.
Their job is to avoid a diplomatic break, not to say the truth.
India are yellow livers...but it's bad to say it.
But it's said.
Message? Simple: "we don't want to break with you but there is a faction among us wich is watching you. Don't go too far."

Indian denials alone arent satisfactory .
Russia and China refused even to oppose the Uno resolution against Iran .
Forget the veto
Is it a betrayal?
I don't think so and explained why here:

I know , Andrew. :)
I asked that to our friend.
Betrayal? No. The Modi government making a stupid mistake and then realizing it? Yes.
They should never have let the US talk them into abandoning that old deal for Russian oil. Now they're paying Russia about four times as much.

Perhaps Pepe was "some acceptable innuendo".
We know the real value of India's eternal friendship.
