I have to admit, my first thought on reading about this call was, maybe this is the first steps of Europe to get diplomacy with Russia working again.

They must have realized by now that exclusive dependence for energy on the US and US-managed sources is a big mistake. Iran demonstrated impressively the weaknesses of the hegemon, in a way encouraging others to overcome their fears. At the least, to reconsider their assessment.

I darent hope for a "Minsk 3", but still, completely excluding the possibility of a reapproachment between Europe/ parts of Europe wont do either. After all, Macron has a history of calling up Putin, even if it was to no avail, there is a path that's been gone before.

Lukashenko wouldn't have anything to obtain from the EU that he could not get from China. Perhaps French wine?

He might be able to resell some Yamal oil to Poland and Germany or even refine it into diesel or other products and then sell it as such at advantageous prices. It would be a great relief to the EU drivers!

But I really do not see the people running the leaders's shows in the EU caring enough about their peoples to go that far. Macron is in quest of anything EU-related since he's known to aim for a high-level EU position (v. d. Leyen's?) when his mandate expires in 2027.
