IMO it's the Pentagon that wants this for purposes of First Strike.

Feral Finster's avatar

The US already can put whatever missiles or other installations it wishes.

Darras's avatar

I don't think so because if it was the only requirement of USA, Trump have just to ask politely and those danish and european c... suckers would hurry to agree.

Velociraver's avatar

How does any of this grant "first strike" capability that doesn't already exist?

The deployment of the Golden Dome is likely part of the “package” that Brussels demanded in return for allowing Trump control—de facto or otherwise—of Greenland. If so, then the EU artfully contrived to link Trump’s “resource-centric” Monroe Doctrine to NATO expansion in Ukraine. The EU knows that it needs U.S. offensive power to counter Russia, something that the Golden Dome, with its space-based elements, provides. This dovetails with the geopolitical sequence at work, with a synchronizing merger of the Polish-led economic project (3SI/“Intermarium”), the German ideological one (liberal-globalist EU rulership), and the U.S.-fronted military one (abetted by its “Islamic [Muslim Brotherhood] NATO” proxy). Together these act as a force multiplier, pooling efforts in a singular campaign against Russia—with “dual use” capability against other powers such as India or China as well.

Velociraver's avatar

The problem is that nobody believes in any "Golden Dome", and even if they did it would provide no "offensive power".

Russian nuclear missiles can already approach USA from the south, and from any angle via submarines.

The end of roman republic saw a sudden territorial expansionism renew. If some like Crassus lost his army and his live against the Parthians( Iranians...already), others like Cesar, attacked the poor Egypt which was already a good old Rome's minion for centuries, just for personal glory. For personnal glory, he invaded too the good old trade partners in Gaul, making Senate furious to see a so insane and useless slaughter of good all friends.

We know what happened next. Cesar was assassinated but Empire raised.

Is it the end of the US republic and the arrival of an imperial moment?

Feral Finster's avatar

I have long said that Trump is simply marking the transition of the United States from a republic ruled by laws to an empire ruled by power.

Darras's avatar

In the Roman republic, it was the oligarchy who ruled. The Senate was composed of representatives of the 600 wealthiest families.

From the start of Empire, it was the legions which named the Cesars.

There is two options. Either Trump and the gang win widely the mid term and their candidate even win the next presidential election.

Or mid term will be catastrophic for Trump, and a mad wave of wokes will flood USA, destroying every remain of USA-WASP. They will send all "trumpists" to jail or let them beaten and killed by crazy mobs with the kindness of crazy judges, politics and even cops. It will be states against states and some states against Washington.

So? Either Trump and the Gang win, either he make a coup, either there will be a civil war in USA.

Because I hope that Trump and the Gang understand very well that there will be no mercy for them.

Feral Finster's avatar

I suspect that, barring something really unforeseen, Team R will lose the midterm elections and hard. No, it won't fix anything, as, like the Roman Republic, the United States is an oligarchy. (As you allude, frequently in history the tyrant is seen as the friend of the commons against the oligarchs.)

Trump is strengthening his position now, even talking about cancelling midterms, because he knows that, unpopular as he is, he never will be more popular.

If you need further proof of abject european peonage, note how American state elections are a subject the the european political class is watching with intent interest, as their fate depends on the outcome of those elections.

Darras's avatar

The ancient Greeks definition of tyrant was the man who make an alliance with the people to overthrow oligarchy. For the best or the worst.

Reason why oligarchies which usually rule the world always gave the worst definition of tyrant. :)

In France, our kings were traditionally tyrant: an alliance between a king, a god and a people. And that from Clovis to Louis XIV.

Feral Finster's avatar

I was thinking of Ivan IV Grozhny.

Darras's avatar

Very good example. He broke the boyards oligarchy. He changed Great Duchy of Moscowia in Russian Empire. He increased the russian territory by more than 400%.

But this alcoholic lunatic murdered his own brillant son(, like Suleiman the Magnificent or Constantin the Great) launching a terrible end of dynasty for Russia.

ikester8's avatar

And soon to an empire in decline. Might already be there.

Feral Finster's avatar

I would not be so sure.

USA became the great country we know thanks to it's huge immigration of Germans and Scandinavians. With a majority of people came from south and central America, I don't know if it will go so well.

Perhaps USA will beginning to look like Colombia or Mexico.

Feral Finster's avatar

I watched a Mexican crew replace the roof on the house next door. Hardest working humans I ever saw, like a swarm of ants. Had the roof off and on, on a big American house, in less than a day.

Darras's avatar

It's not enough.

What characterize Germans and Scandinavians of XIX century, was not only a hard work ability. It was a unique sens of effectiveness AND efficiency, discipline ( without submission) , of honesty and social responsibilities.

Trumps "golden Dome " is short sighted. Russia can send missiles to strike the USA from Noorth , South, East, West. Submarines. Trump , start getting smart and make friends with Russia. If we end up in a nuclear war with Russia the WHITE RACE will be eliminated Who do you want to leave the world to????

Jojo's avatar

[rotflol] Almighty Russia! A county that can't even dispatch Ukraine after 3 years, a country that has to date, refused to draft its 18-25 year olds into the war. That's how NOT existential the war is to Ukraine.

Stop believing in the MYTH of a powerful Russia. 'taint so.

Forget Taiwan. Look for China to grab a piece of eastern Russia in the next few years. SURPRISE!

Walter DuBlanica's avatar

Jo jo , Russia is a nuclear super power. China is not going to invade eastern Russia. Russians & Ukrainians are identical people. Russia is taking it's time to weed out the Bandera gang that is the cause of the trouble. Russia had a 1800 milr wwith Ukraine , it will not leave. Jojo stop your simple Russophobia. Russia has never l;ost a war over the centuries. Ask the Germans, French. Swedes, P{oles English.

Russia has never lost a war over the centuries?

Darras's avatar

Walt, Walt, Walt.

At least.

Russia lost against Germans in 1917.

Lost against Japanese in 1905

Lost against Turco-UK-France in 1853

Walter DuBlanica's avatar

Darras,Darras,Darras, My second assessment of you. You are unfamiliar wth what you are talking about. 1917 the Russians slammed the Austro-Hungarians in a matter of weeks and incorporated the Galician Russians back into Ukraine. VICTORY Japan 1905, Russia did not lose an acre of land to the Japs. 1853, the Crimean war. Those who entered the war got a swift kick in the pants and went home. The Brits had the "Charge oof the Light Brigade" Charged into a row of cannons & were blown to pieces. Please do not allow me to make other assessments about you. Have a good year. Walt Walt.Walt

The last great "Expansionist" -- whose name for some reason I can't recall for the moment -- repeatedly declared that his current conquent (Austria, Sudetenland, etc.) would be his last territorial claim. So when you say that "Trump doesn’t seem interested in annexing" the northern Canadian Islands I think this is perhaps a bit premature. I personally think that "Golden Dome" or offense/defense has little to do with Trump's megalomania, though it may well be an important factor for those behind him who are surely formulating his policies for him, such as Stephen Miller who pithily stated that if you can't defend a territory you have no right owning it.

Trump's primary motivation, in my view, is to be known as the US President who added the greatest amount of land to the US. It seems that Greenland by itself would already give him this title since it is apparently marginally larger than the land acquired by the Louisiana Purchase and significantly larger than Alaska. But why stop with the northern Canadian islands? Surely Labrador and Newfoundland need to be included in the US defensive shield. Moreover, these only became part of Canada in 1949 following a hotly-contested referendum the year before. And Trump could certainly cite the 2012 book by Greg Malone "Don't Tell the Newfoundlanders: The True Story of Newfoundland's Confederation with Canada" in support of the argument that the referendum was fraudulent -- a subject in which he himself claims some expertise.

https://www.amazon.com/Dont-Tell-Newfoundlanders-Newfoundlands-Confederation-ebook/dp/B0086N7AZQ/

And of course, what right do the perfidious French have to ownership of the strategic islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon?

Marc Handelsman's avatar

Thank you for making insightful points in your post. Acquiring Greenland would most likely require approval from the U.S. Congress. Since the deeply partisan U.S. Congress has not been able to pass a federal budget on time since 1996, acquiring Greenland is about as unlikely as adding more stars on the American flag.

jtyjt's avatar

as usual, the part through which the barbelist world ruling families do their work wins again. there is no other result possible down here, even when you have all the power behind.

jtyjt's avatar

canada should be full partner of a lucid and practical eu.

Feral Finster's avatar

A forced deal is hardly "fair".

Darras's avatar

After Groenland? Antarctica.

Jojo's avatar

May as well grab Canada also, even if they cry and scream!

The reality is that in 20-30 years, when an AI is running the world and robots do all the work, there will not be any countries or national borders anyway, so little that happens now is going to matter when "then" comes around. Till then, party on Garth!
