An excellent antidote to the “Russia Resistance Axis” fantasy, Andrew.

Geopolitically, I see multiple reasons to behave this way. (1) to soften tension with the West. (2) to reduce collateral damage to Israel. Not out of love for Russian Jews living in the US, but for the Jewish influences on the US. (3) to keep a good relationship with GCC. For OPEC to align more with BRICS or Russian interests, Russia cannot afford to let KSA drift too close toward the US. Whether Israel will attack Iran also has some dependence on the Gulf Countries' attitude. (3) The UN-recognized Yemeni government is likely Sunni (not sure) and historically aligned with KSA. I think two separate states are better than a single state constantly in civil war. When the climate is right, I think Russia would have no problem recognizing Houthis as a legitimate but separate government. I do suspect another international player might be popping up the Houthis.

As for Pepe, I listened to him twice, then I shut off. I consider him a lefty romanticist. He would be a great conversationalist when you have the time and luxury to puff a cigar and sip champagne while talking about all kinds of subjects all over the world. Then you wake up and go home to resume your normal daily lives. Many things he says are in the right direction, but the exact details tend to be off. His predictions about the greatness of BRICS are obvious examples.
