But why should NATO/ the EU help open the Strait of Hormuz? Trump has been saying for weeks now that they have decapitated Iran's army, their navy, their missiles, their nuclear program. So why can't he open the Strait then? Moreover, it was Trump's decision to go to war against Iran, which caused the closure of the Strait. Why should they have to find a solution to a problem the US caused? Especially, when just weeks ago, Trump threatened to invade and annex Greenland. Moreover, didn't Trump just raise global tariffs to a minimum of 15% a month ago, after he had negotiated his trade deal with the EU? Why should the EU do him any favors at this point? Moreover, the EU/ NATO is already fully involved in funding and arming Ukraine, so much that they are running out of weapons and money at this point.

So we're dealing with the old war in Ukraine/ Russia, this new Gulf war, Cuba, the tariffs issue, Greenland and now Trump wants to add NATO to the mix?

I think the EU is doing the only sensible thing at this point, which is to protect itself and refrain from getting further involved in Trump's mad and chaotic world.

Thank you, Dr. Andrew for your excellent post. Hopefully, the U.S. eventually leaves NATO, which serves no useful purpose.
