At the present time Hungary is the only country in Europe (aside from Norway) that has access to as much oil and gas as it needs, and even gets it at a discount.

Given that the current situation in the energy markets is likely to continue for some time, it’s difficult to see why a new government would be willing to put in jeopardy such an advantageous trading relationship.

Sales of oil and gas to Hungary represent only around 1% of Russia’s total energy exports, so there is some leverage there if the Russians chose to use it.

Well, maybe he duped both camps? That would be something new: a politician who not only duped his followers, but his bosses as well.
