As we know, Russian leaders have their attention on the machinations in Europe & their ties with USA. Much of this appears to be the proverbial house of cards ready to let go any moment. It is held together mostly by presumptions based on the past.
Yes the USA is likely to withdraw from Ukraine. Even Zelensky can see that.
However, the USA will not withdraw from Poland or Romania. If I were in Putin's place, my position in so-called Ukraine peace negotiation would be very hard, like asking for an unconditional surrender. Anything less would require the USA to withdraw from Poland, Baltics, Finland, and Romania, but these countries AND the USA can stay in NATO if they want to.
Am I one of the Maximalists? I am not sure. But there can be no security agreement with American military stationing right out the Russian borders. Without a security agreement, then there is minimal commerce relationship, and such reltion only hppens when Russians see it fits.
