Putting Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea and the Danube out of action should help to reduce China’s dependence on Ukrainian agricultural imports, and to limit the importation of drone components from third parties via Türkiye etc.

I had thought initially that these attacks were designed to cause only limited damage to port infrastructure and the intention was to use the ‘blockade’ as a bargaining chip to extract concessions in eventual negotiations. I see now however that the Russians are using heavy FAB bombs as well as missiles in these airstrikes, so I’m assuming that they now intend to cause such significant damage as to make the ports unusable on a long-term basis, and so present the West with a fait accompli.

Further interdicting Ukrainian trade through severing its rail connections with Europe and knocking out bridges and other choke points is likely causing great concern to Ukraine’s Western allies.

I don’t really understand why this wasn’t done a couple of years ago.

We can say exactly the same about Russia and war against Iran. It doesn't help USA nor Israel but it enjoy a long war in Iran.

With such behaviour, BRICS will go nowhere
