I can see Africa becoming more important but its chronic corruption, inate political instablity outside of color revolutions and inabality to runthings in general would negate a lot of its potentional.

In fact, its growing population has come more a curse given its own inabily to farm or otherwise provide. Africa's dependance on foreign aid is as much an indictment of the Golden BIllion as of African leaders themelves.

An estimated literacy of only % 70 says a lot, 50-70 years after independance from colonial rule.

De-colonization is a mixed bag. Native leaders now face some of the same problems thier colonial masters did on a continent whose civilizations have never kept up with the rest of the world even before imperial rule. In fact, this is why is was so easy to colonize Africa to begin with.
