I'm a right-wing German and half of my family comes from what is now Poland. I know nobody who really wants those territories back. We perhaps make some jokes about it, but that's it.

Quite the opposite, Poles are regarded as decent, hard-working people (something I can't say any more about my fellow countrymen). The German right is often using Poland as an example of how we could be if we wouldn't flood the country with third-world immigrants.

In my personal case, I learned some Polish and visited many formerly German cities, and I was always positively surprised how relaxed the Poles deal with the German past. They treat it with respect, often you see old buildings being renovated, including some German names that may have survived the times. So on a personal level, there are warm feelings and no friction.

Hence, the only risk I see is that a pro-EU Germany could coerce countries like Poland, Slovakia or Hungary to comply with EU rules.

1. No amount of military spend will turn an old folks home populated by metrosexual weenies into a military power. The biggest wimps on the wimpiest continent on earth.

Ever been shooting with Germans? You haven't really lived until you have.

2. All this assumes that the Polish leadership will act rationally. The only question is which flavor of irrationality you want.
