The lessons they should take from this would be to give thanks that it was not more than a proxy war and to seek peace now before it is too late.
On the part of NATO it is what I would call a “chicken shit” war: like the vandalizing neighborhood kid who slashes your tyres knowing you can’t use the police against him without catching him in the act. Waging real war but without the gumption actually to declare war and take whatever punishment Russia can (and will) mete out to you. The Russians have displayed the patience of the saints.
