The Brazilian leader’s tweet is flat-out false since those two have never voted in support of anti-Russian UNGA Resolutions, particularly the one from last October that he appears to be referencing regarding the prior month’s referenda that resulted in four former Ukrainian regions joining Russia.
Brazilian President Lula just lied about his Chinese and Indian BRICS partners when tweeting early Monday morning that they “condemn the territorial occupation of Ukraine” alongside his country and Indonesia. That’s flat-out false since those two have never voted in support of anti-Russian UNGA Resolutions, particularly the one from last October that Lula appears to be referencing regarding the prior month’s referenda that resulted in four former Ukrainian regions joining Russia.
This brazen betrayal of trust between these three BRICS countries is a direct result of Lula functioning as the West’s Trojan Horse for misleading the Global South’s masses into supporting that de facto New Cold War bloc’s maximalist position towards this conflict instead of those two’s pragmatic calls for a ceasefire. Those readers who aren’t aware of his role in this respect should review these three analyses as well as the most recent one here about how Lula just voluntarily submitted himself to being Zelensky’s beta.
This self-proclaimed “socialist” is ideologically aligned with the US’ ruling liberal-globalist Democrats, so much so that he reportedly proposed jointly launching a global influence network with them during his trip to DC in early February. Despite envisaging Brazil balancing between China via de-dollarization and the US through this aforementioned proposal, however clumsily as critiqued here and here, he clearly leans closer to America if pressured by circumstances to choose between it and the People’s Republic.
The aforesaid context explains why Lula just lied about China and India’s position towards this conflict. It wasn’t enough for him to go along with Sunday’s public humiliation ritual of being stood up by Zelensky and then literally laughed at by the press afterwards once his Ukrainian counterpart told them while “smirking” that “I think it disappointed [Lula]” according to Reuters’ report. The Brazilian leader evidently felt he had to lie about those two states’ stance in order to further prove his fealty to the US.
It's one thing for Lula to pledge allegiance to the West by voting together with it against Russia at the UNGA, another to function as its Trojan Horse for misleading the Global South’s masses into supporting that bloc’s maximalist position, and something else entirely to lie about China and India. By taking everything to the level that he just did, Lula ended up discrediting himself in the eyes of all objective observers, though his propagandists will predictably gaslight by denying this.
Nevertheless, he just showed his true colors by waging information warfare against China and India through his false claim about their positions towards this conflict. Those two’s diplomats are experienced enough not to fall for this US-advised narrative trap of rhetorically escalating the situation and thus risk dividing BRICS even more so nobody should expect them to call him out for his Trojan Horse role. That said, a carefully worded clarification of some sort might be forthcoming to ensure that nobody is misled.
