Lula is obviously not being advised properly in the wider reasons of WHY Russia had to make a move in the Donbass region! NO leader, of ANY country, given similar circumstances could take ANY other decision than that Putin has taken!

I’m surprised that he’s taking this position, that he can be so ignorant of such important geopolitical issue! Hopefully someone will talk some sense into him before he continues on this path.

I'm not a Lula supporter, but I think you ignore the challenges that Brazil has. I believe that your text takes little into account what it is like to be a big country and seek a global affirmation and expose yourself as a leader for multipolarity and at the same time be so dominated by American power. We've got Uncle Sam's foot on our necks. I don't see Brazil wanting to keep "one foot in each boat", but Brazil is very susceptible to hybrid warfare and US coups d'état.

You overestimate the "alignment" between Lula and the Democrats beyond domestic issues. In fact, the liberal left has positions that I agree with on LGBT rights, Covid and how to deal with the extreme right. But obviously I expect a lot of pressure from the US against Brazil to instigate the country against the BRICS partners. The pressure has already started with the absurd request by the USA for Brazil (and other Latin American countries) to cede arms to Ukraine, the request is so absurd that it proves not to be a request for something material, but rather an opening of pressure against Latin America with a speech "in defense of humanity in Ukraine".

You even mention it, but Lula's arrest is a clear demonstration of how much Brazil is under attack from the American hybrid war, while Maduro in Venezuela is much more pressured externally, but has more strength in internal politics than Lula has in Brazil . You don't understand the cultural impact the US has on millionaires, the mainstream media, public institutions, parliament and regional governments.

Great insightgul article...I also noticed the change in Lula's rhetoric after he returned from 576 days in the slammer. Maybe he decided to compromise with the US globalists for political survival. There's lots of time to think in jail and he is after all only human.

In the case of Uruguay and China, it is necessary to underline that not only that country, but all of Mercosur, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, experienced an economic boom at the beginning of the century thanks to their agricultural exports -especially soybeans- to the growing Chinese market. Today, however, Lula fears that Beijing will find a back door through an agreement with Uruguay - a buffer country, artificially created by British imperialism in the 19th century - to flood its own market with more competitive products than those of Brazil, where it still protectionism and import substitution prevail.

As for CELAC, it no longer has room to grow, since it encompasses all Latin American and Caribbean countries. It's problem is the same as the one that Unasur suffered before, that is, the lack of will for a real and effective integration in the region, which can only occur when nations like Argentina, Chile and Colombia accept the leadership of Brasilia, or when México - the second economic powerhouse in the area-manages to break its dependence on the US and associates with Brazil to form a true political and economic bloc that goes from the Rio Grande to Tierra del Fuego.

We will find out where Lula really is over the year. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see that the move towards a multi polar world is inexorable and that the whole woke global warming movement is a disaster. If you want proof check out The Cost of Everything with Christy AI and her interview with auto expert Lauren Fix and the disaster that is electronic vehicles. Stupid is what stupid does. Let's see if Lula's brain cells are still functioning!

He's dealing with his past failures. He allowed money to concentrate the mass media and did not break up the cartel because of a Faustian bargain that they would support some of his programs. The cartel was smart enough to know he's be less popular sooner or later and they could strike hard to undo what was given away. Now he's hanging by a thread, he'll make an ideal Bill Clinton, able to do what Bolsonaro could not do.

His stance against Russia and detestable support for LGBT can be redeemed if he does in fact implement a South American currency and/or re-nationalize state assets sold under Bolsonaro. I'm iffy on him

Are not many of these South American countries reaching out for a stronger coalition and more local currency, like some of the ambitions in Africa? Lula perhaps a little bit of a Trojan Horse? He squarely is not interested in US military aims. I am most concerned with the US sanctions, media, military solutions than their cultural slants. Modi apparently was doing some good biz deals with Trump and Musk.
