I find this analysis pretty superficial. China has hitherto tried to avoid following a path to WW3. In my understanding Russia tries that to, with it's red line on Ukraine. Russia can not stop WW3 by it's own. Russia and China can do that if cooperating, and including India and other big powers in their alliance against NATO. I find that your article does not appreciate the cooperation between Russia and China started by Putin and Xi Jinping.

A simple solution for Xi is to go to Berlin (and maybe Paris) before or right after Moscow, after all he'd be returning the visit to Beijing by German PM Olaf Scholz. Xi can use the trip to both assert China's bonafidies as peace maker / potential arbitrator and further exasperating German / USA relations because US Congress won't be able to control itself from beating on Germany for hosting Xi.

Thank you for this insight. From a broader perspective though, we might take hope that there are people in the US who are seeking to work towards a Détente. Might we expect that the big scary balloon will soon be forgotten, and the forces of Reason will try again soon?

A clue might be to observe whether Xi will wait for a while before going to Moscow, to see if a new opportunity to meet Blinken can be conjured up? After all, the Forces of Darkness would need some more weighty incidents to sustain their narrative, wouldn’t they?

'Hardliners' forget that to fight a war, a country needs a cohesive sportsteam WILLING to fight. A non-motivated or opposing bunch of internet addicts, born as only child, most never even able to find a girl to start a family, are nowhere to start. Big problem for China and the West.

I can't imagine the US drumming up enough anti-China propaganda to get people willing to fight a war. They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel with how dumb this balloon thing is. Everyone would immediately draft dodge which would be hilarious
