Their military-technical ties are changing, but this isn’t at the expense of their strategic partnership and most certainly not due to foreign influence, be it American or Chinese.
Most of the knives and swords cut both ways. Russia had some really bad experiences with China in weapon exports and joint development. I hope India plays smart and be honest so Russians earn their proper profits. However, India's heavy industries have been continuously improving for at least two decades now, likely longer. Over time, India will become more proficient at design and manufacturing. Therefore, there is a need for Russia to continue the effort to keep its military R&D in a pack-leading position. Weapon technology exports have always been a security leak risk for all weapon exporters. I hope Russians will balance the trade with India by buying more consumer products from India. I am not sure what can sell well in Russia, but India surely cannot improve its economy by exporting weapons alone.
The problem with India's trade imbalance is that we are not a manufacturing powerhouse like china which can produce products at scale for cheap amounts. so Russia is wary of accepting rupees for oil because they have no use for it. But As India's foreign minister said to Russian deputy PM in Mumbai, Moscow should use that Rupees to invest in Indian infrastructure and stock markets which is a very valuable investment strategy. Let's see if Russia invests in India like how Canadian pension funds do
Agree to a limited extent. The issue is to absorb large amount of returning Rupee, Russia will take significant positions in certain industries, maybe even infrastructure companies or public utilities. This can pose a national security concern. An alternative is Russia's sovereign investment fund accepts the responsibility and invest in several broad India index funds so as to avoid achieving dominating positions. Initially, India probably has to start with special food and other light industrial products. At least Indian national government now has a strong incentive to build something according to specs of Russian buyers (could include the Russian government). Port facilities and railway can be interesting to Russia if agreements can be reached to eliminate the national security concerns from the Indian government.
As you can see the Chennai-Vladivostok corridor is now operational bringing trade transit time from 40 to 24 days. Indian Vande Bharat sleeper trains are made in st Petersburg, not to mention the Koodankulam nuclear power plant. The cooperation can be further strengthened if not the war in Ukraine
India is now emerging as one of the biggest threats to the US hegemony.

India wants to maintain a balance. And the self-sufficiency rate is gradually increasing as well, this is particularly so for army equipment.
