But of course there were Ukrainians at Normandy 80 years ago. They were helping to man the German defenses.

The article appropriately remembers the role of the Russians in defeating the Nazis. But would that have been possibe without the endless convoys of foreign aid?

Absolutely. The notion that Lend-Lease made it possible for the U.S.S.R. to prevail is every bit as mythical as the notion that the U.S. won the war. This is Cold War nonsense. No matter what it took, it just could not be acknowledged that the U.S.S.R. destroyed the Nazis Wehrmacht. This shows the dishonesty and weakness of the U.S. and the West.

Jim Fiala, thank you for your comment. Do you have any sources to back that up? I found an article that appears to disagree with your assessment:

According David Glantz, one of the world's foremost historians on the Eastern Front in World War II, the Soviets would have probably won even without Lend- Lease 𝒂𝒏𝒅 the opening of the Second Front.

It can be a frustrating subject. The numbers are all over the map. I'm open to anything new that is to be found. A lifelong family friend was in the Merchant Marines and assigned to the dangerous Murmansk Run, the arctic convoys that delivered supplies to Murmansk and Archangel. There's a decent entry on Wikipedia.
