The estimated €800 billion in defense spending that’s supposed to follow in the next four years might sound impressive, but it becomes much less so when considering the difficulties in optimizing this.
In Germany they could maybe convert automobile plants to tank production as they close them down one by one.
Not sure where they’re going to find the workers who are going to be producing the new guns and artillery shells - unemployed Afghan and Syrian refugees perhaps…hmmm…that could be problematic.
Even in peacetime nobody wants to enlist in Europe’s armed forces - there’ll probably be even fewer if there’s a prospect of being sent to fight the Russians and coming home in a body bag.
Possibly every European country will end up with a Polish Foreign Legion, and maybe a Ukrainian one too, as they’re the only ones who hate Russians enough to fight them.
Excellent, if they cannot come up with enough money to help them “Gambling with WWIII” they can spend their time to watch their own children to grow up. Sweden and Norway joined the game while salivating for the goodies under the Arctic ice and now the whole gang is uniting under the loving management of Macron and Zelensky. Now, it is time for them to fabricate their first nuclear ice-breaker or they just might try to steal a few from Russia. Had they not march to the Russian border the economy was improving there rapidly, especially fossil fuel exports and this is exactly why they were all getting hysterical. And now, we are arriving to a mental state of the NATO members that is referred to as “buyers’ remorse” in the used car industry. They bought Russia as an enemy with their “Great March” but as reality is checking in “remorse” is setting in and they will have to apologize and search for a soft landing. It is going to be painful to wait in line at the door of the Kremlin in this cold weather, especially if Lavrov is going to be the doorman.
Not to mention the quarreling that will happen over how this gets shared. Who is going to be making any decision over where armaments go? Who gets what? How can it possibly be divided evenly? France is also attempting to be the nuclear umbrella for part of Europe. How’s that gonna work out? Does anyone trust the French to be the “big dog” that the US is? Laughable really. This will begin Europe to bickering and history will guide us from here. Without the US keeping all of Europe stable those border countries begin a distrust of each other just like it’s been for millennia. The US in Europe has done more to keep it stable than everyone realizes and once we step back or even leave NATO things will go back to how it’s been forever. Can the EU keep national peace too? That remains to be seen.

That Ukrainians fled rather than fight does not bode well.
Europeans are plenty hateful. But they're also the biggest wimps on the planet.

The ghost of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria weeps in sad recognition of the doomed relationships. Napoleon offers a kerchief.

Germany's massive national dept will minimize any future goverment's room for maneuver. Merz's political task! So let's look for the lenders...
