In a joint attack on Iran the Israeli/US strategy objective will be to degrade and immobilise the functioning Iranian State to a situation where it is dysfunctional and severed from the Axis of Resistance (the decapitation expression used by Netanyahu in his rant to the US Congress). However the Neocons will invariably seek to exploit this opportunity any opportunity to regime change the Islamic Republics restoring US hegemony in Western Asia and further threatening Russia’s southern periphery. I cannot imagine Russia’s diplomatic balancing act being appropriate to the defence of Iran in these circumstances. Also with US marshalling the ‘grande armada’ into the waters of the eastern Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf to let its air and missile assets decimate Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Iran without hindrance will embolden the Empire to extend and deepen the theatre of NATO, kinetic and soft power operations in Western Asia against Russia and its allies. The objective being to overextend Russia and weaken its resolve in Ukraine to accept a ceasefire conducive to the Neocons aim of trapping Russia in a permanent war in Ukraine.
