Thanks very much for your generosity in sharing these insightful and well informed articles.

If Trump is serious about a negotiating some form of rapprochement with Russia, and is sincere in his apparent wish for peace and cooperation in Europe, then it’s unclear to me why he should, concurrently, demand that Western European countries should more than double their current - anti-Russian- defense spending to 5% of their respective GDPs. I mean, either Russia is planning to invade Poland or the Baltic states or something, or it isn’t, and presumably he thinks it isn’t, or he wouldn’t be looking to a detente.

Unless of course what he’s really demanding is that they, in effect, transfer 5% of their GDPs ad infinitum to the US MIC, as the price for a vague, general and highly dubious commitment to defend them from the scary and psychotic Russian Bear, although, as he implicitly acknowledges, it isn’t very scary at all.

Sounds like a shakedown lol.

Trump, of course, is not giving up the Empire. He simply realizes that the U.S. is losing and that what the ruling elite has been doing up till now has failed miserably and at extreme cost to the U.S.

Trump will try to turn the Russian against China. However, the U.S. has a long history of duplicity in its dealings with Russia and Russia as part of the USSR. Also, Russia and much of the world realize the ferocious-in-the-extreme nature of U.S. capitalism. It has reached its highest stage of predation and will even devour its own.
