Either Lula is turning senile and thus sincerely believes in his own narcissistic mind that the leaders of the world’s two largest countries lack the confidence to tell everyone what they truly think so they told him to do so in their stead, or he’s deliberately lying about their policies to provoke them.
Yeah, but if he suffers from NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), like so many of us do (and, arguably, we ALL do to some extent), then he's probably not really very sure himself what his purpose is. The behaviour described here certainly fits the pattern. It doesn't get easier as you get older. Trauma plays a significant role, too; more significant in earlier developmental stages, but going to prison, even during middle-to-later age, even if it's everyone else's fault, and particularly because it's everyone else's fault, wouldn't do anyone any good.
Narcissists are notoriously difficult to treat and almost universally despised by psycho- and other therapists. Whatever you do, however you help; indeed, the more you help, the more they feel comfortable manipulating you into the role of co-narcissist. Sam Vaknin, himself a narcissist, has done a lot of work on it. Interesting stuff. Google it, should keep you entertained for hours once you see how people with silly names, like Lulu and BoJo (Am. Eng. — Bozo (the Clown)), etc. fit in.
Actually, it does get easier as you get older for most, but those whose destinies enable them to seemingly prosper, e.g. by getting out of prison and not being forced to address long-standing NP traits and associated issues AND being excused for them AND (what a lu-lu!) even being proved you were right all along by getting the old job back (for which you went to prison!)... Wow, poor guy! He may never get any better. In any case, the cards are really stacked against his mental health.
Senility? He doesn't look good (Good header picture, Andrew.) does he?
The old donkey is alas far from senile, hence you know what his purpose truly is….
