No one who sincerely supports Russia can say in good conscience that Andrey Melnik’s praise of his meeting with Lula’s chief foreign policy advisor Celso Amorim is anything to celebrate.
I keep wondering if Brazil's equivocal posture regarding this conflict has to do more with its own history of being manipulated and in all but name taken over by the US from time to time. Might this make them careful to condemn anything that looks like loss of territory or sovereignty, in case it's used against them should the US want something (more) of theirs? Not to mention being much more vulnerable to direct US involvement in their affairs. It feels like they have a somewhat schizophrenic attitude to the whole thing, perhaps from prior experience of US involvement all over South America.
Indeed, and yet the interview I recently gave to RT on the subject was censored, along with the program that was covering the shortcomings of Lula, for fear of angering the Brazilians….
