This is a major challenge to India's strategy to be neutral and to vie for a multi-polar world. I am sure Mr. Modi is a wise man, but I don't know what DJT will throw at him. The hostilities and competition between India and China will always be there. Mr. Putin should allow some wiggle room for India and wait for the world economies to change.

Modi talks from both sides of his mouth when it comes to the US. He promises he’s going to be some help to the US when it comes to Russia and China. He then joins BRICS and meshes Indian gold to make a currency that is solely designed to replace the dollar. India has a deep mistrust of China but you’d find it hard pressed as it joins them creating the new currency. Modi is doing what’s best for India I suppose but calling India some sort of ally is bullshit. I wouldn’t trust this guy as far as I could throw him. If any agreement is made I’d make it contingent on India divesting from BRICS and that’s not negotiable from my end.

Agreed, the issues with the Biden administration were due to India receiving preferential treatment from the US but then failing to reciprocate when US needed support for russian sanctions.

The US is quite naive in this regard. India and most countries in the region operate transactional relationships and will take advantage if allowed.

They will never be a traditional ally the way the US wants.

Modi's India bends to the highest bidder. BRICS is more akin to disposable Bics. The Empire has struck again and will continue its hegemony for the foreseeable future. BRICS nations are far too meek to resist the NEO's who will rule over them and command them to do as they are told.

Might is right.

I was still a young lad when I heard on the news of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination - apparently at the hands of “Sikh separatists”. It wasn’t until the turn of the century that I learned that it was ‘payback’ for her ordering the Army to lay siege to the Golden Temple - the Sikh’s “Holy of Holies”. The Sikhs are indigenous to the Punjabi region - a very fertile land that was (crudely imho) divided between the Hindus (India) and Muslims (Pakistan). My limited exposure to Sikh religion and culture here in the USA tells me that they are for the most part extremely pacifist (not unlike Buddhists) and those calling for an independent “Khalistan” are a ‘hot-headed’ minority with rather limited support by the Sikh majority. This may have changed somewhat in recent times with the ascendancy of Modi and his policies of Hinduttva (sp?) - of which I know next to nothing- which is why I turn to experts such as yourself, Mr. Korybko. Thank you for your tireless reporting and analysis- I generally find very little to disagree with!

Far from being pacifist the Sikhs are renowned warriors with high representation in the armed forces and police. Part of their religion is to always carry a weapon on them. ( traditionally a kirpan a type of sword. They have a large sepratist movement with the creation of their own state called Khalistan the end goal.

The indian army went into the golden temple due to this sepratist group using it as their strong hold. They commit all kinds of terrorist attacks in the name of their cause. Including bombings, ethnic cleansing and assassinations. Indria Gandhi was shot by 2 of her long time and highly trusted sikh bodyguards.

A big shock to the country.

A Sikh who became defense minister of Canada even directed the Canadian military to prioritize rescuing Sikhs who were not Canadian citizens during the fall of Kabul.

In Canada the immigrant Sikh population has a large number of sympathisers who openly agitate against India. They even blew up a passenger plane. They are engaged in large scale organised crime and drug trafficking. They vote along ethnic lines and have support from Sikh members of the Canadian government.

Your attitude towards Sikhs in general and to the ‘Khalistan activists’ in particular is quite apparently biased and I’m certain you feel completely justified in your not-so-humble opinion. I much prefer the opinion and analysis of our host, tyvm.

When did you last visit the Punjab or indeed India? I was born and raised there. I spent 3 years living in Chandigarh in sector 17, have been to Amritsar several times and visited the Golden temple.

I was residing in New Delhi when Indria Gandhi was shot. I narrowly escaped being lynched with my mother during the riots. We also sheltered our Sikh neighbours when their house was burned down and looted.

Your arrogance is only exceeded by your ignorance.

Consider yourself rebuked Sir
